The inaugural Nova exhibition will be exhibited across two venues in Cardiff from 9th – 26th May.

Launched at The Royal Cambrian Academy, Conwy on Saturday 18th November 2017, Nova is a new biennial arts prize for Welsh artists 35 and under, celebrating the wealth of talent in the Contemporary Arts in Wales. Since November the exhibition has toured to Aberystwyth Arts Centre and will next month be on display to art lovers in the south of the country.

Two of Cardiff’s artist-led spaces Arcadecardiff and Three Doors Up will present the Nova Cymru prize from 9 to 26 May 2018. Located virtually next to each other in the heart of City in the Queens Arcade, just of Queen Street.

Thirty one emerging Welsh artistic talents have been selected for the exhibition by a panel of high profile selectors, including Alfredo Cramerotti Director of MOSTYN, Llandud- no, Hannah Firth, Director of Visual Arts, CHAPTER, Cardiff and Caernarfon based artist Bedwyr Williams.

On the selection of the artists’ Hannah Firth said "It’s been a real privilege to be a judge on the inaugural NOVA Cymru prize and to see such a strong and diverse range of submissions from artists working across Wales. Selection was incredibly difficult but we are delighted with the final shortlist of 31 artists, and anticipate an exhibition, which is exciting, thought-provoking and engaging for audiences. Picking prize winners is going to be even more tough than the initial selection but we are sure that this new and vital biennial will provide a great platform for all of the exhibitors to build their careers on"

At The Royal Cambrian Academy, Conwy the panel awarded one thousand pounds to the Nova Artist of the Year 2017 Paul Eastwood, thanks to the kind sponsorship of Welsh Speciality Foods. Gweni Llwyd was awarded the Young NOVA Award 2017 for artists under 25 and received £500.

Visitors to the exhibition at Arcadecardiff and Three Doors Up can vote for their favourite artwork and the votes gathered from across Wales will be counted with the winning artist awarded the Nova People's Prize and awarded £100. The announcement will take place on Saturday 26 May at 4pm at Arcadecardiff.

Jeremy Yates, President of the RCA says: “The aim of Nova is to support and promote excellence in emerging Welsh art by offering young artist the chance to have their work seen by our panel of high profile selectors as well as being given the opportunity to exhibit their work at the RCA Conwy in the inaugural Nova exhibition in November”.
